Patricia Krentcil, better known as “Tan Mom,” came into the spotlight in April 2012 when her daughter’s school nurse accused her of bringing her then-5-year-old daughter into the tanning booth with her – an accusation she quickly denied, saying that while she had brought her daughter into the room, she hadn’t let her in the tanning bed. Krentcil claimed that the burns found on her daughter were from excessive time spent in the sun.
In early 2013, a jury decided not to charge Krenctil with child endangerment. She was cleared of all criminal charges and went on a media tour to confess to her suspected tanorexia, or addiction to tanning. Despite the infamous story’s end, though, Krentcil has remained in the public eye.
Krentcil has become known for her wild behavior since rising to notoriety – in August 2012, a drunken Krentcil was kicked out of her own roast at a drag queen club in New York City when she was reportedly found to be so inebriated that she couldn’t speak properly or stand.
In June 2013, Krentcil went to the Lukens Institute for substance abuse after she was found drunk at the St. Paul Airport in Minneapolis and apprehended by airport police. While in rehab, Krentcil had a seizure – which was believed to be caused by her detoxing – but stabilized en route to the hospital.
While Krentcil was in rehab, ‘Teen Mom’ Farrah Abraham was also in attendance – and not well-liked. “In group she took pictures of me,” Krentcil told Uinterview exclusively. “It was the most degrading moment because we’re in a rehab, and she would sit on the phone, and everyone’s like, ‘This is a rehab, like, what’s your deal?’”
Krentcil also gave some advice to Abraham – specifically, regarding Abraham’s sex tape. “A piece of advice is that you run around saying you’re a ‘mom, mom, mom’ — moms wouldn’t do [a porno],” Krentcil told Uinterview. “I mean a little bare stuff but that sex video is disgusting and it made me throw up and I only saw the first part, which is enough to see and it’s unheard of. Stop calling yourself a mom, a mom wouldn’t do that… Keep your clothes on. And, stop taking pictures. And then she’s so proud that she did this sex video!”
In 2013, Krentcil released a few songs, including “It’s Tan Mom” and “Life Of The Party.” Her songs have been negatively received by critics, but she’s not bothered by it. Krentcil told Uinterview exclusively that her first song was a spoof. “I’m not a rapper, but I love rap, it’s great, it’s so hip, it’s wild,” she said. “You can go crazy with it. To my critics that judge me, I just think that people are too judgmental.”
Krentcil no long engages in extreme tanning.
In 2012, she appeared on The Howard Stern Show. She has become a regular on the show due to her unpredictable behavior and humor.
During the pandemic, she started a show called Tan Talk discussing whatever came to mind.
In 2019, Krentcil was hospitalized for pneumonia and was placed in a medically induced coma after suffering cardiac arrest. She was also diagnosed with pancreatitis and an infection that spread to her lungs. She had been a heavy smoker.
In 2021, her husband Richard died after being diagnosed with colon cancer, COVID-19 and pneumonia. They shared two of her five children. Anna, 18, and Addison, 15.
She has relocated from her New Jersey home to Boca Raton, Florida, where she has been dating a bit since her husband’s passing. In 2022, she said that she felt like a “totally different person”.
“I changed my whole attitude on life. I’ve turned my whole life around,” Krentcil told Insider. “I don’t get disrespected anymore. I don’t party or do any crazy things.”
