Josh Segarra is an American actor who is best known for his roles as Hector Ruiz in the children’s television show The Electric Company, Billy Cepeda in the comedy series Sirens, and Adrian Chase in the popular CW superhero show Arrow.
Segarra was born on June 3, 1986 (Josh Segarra age: 37) in Longwood, Florida. He is of Puerto Rican origin and is fluent in Spanish.
When he was younger, Segarra found his voice by singing in the Pentecostal church. However, his desire was to train himself to become a professional wrestler.
Segarra attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he graduated in 2008.
In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Segarra revealed one of his favorite experiences acting when he was little.
“When I was in the eighth grade,” Segarra recalled. “I did a community theater production of The Wizard of Oz and I played the cowardly lion. I still, to this day, sing it in the shower. It’s my favorite part I’ve ever played and I’m super thankful to the community theater of Orlando, Florida, Orlando Youth Theater. Being in high school, I had a teacher that changed my life. To them, I owe everything to them.”
Moving on to the newly released comedy Big Door Prize, Segarra discussed his most memorable moment from the set.
“Honestly, I’m going to remember my restaurant,” Segarra mentioned. “Giorgio opens an Italian restaurant/sports center. So, while you’re eating your chicken parm, you can go play a little air hockey, dance revolution, or some pop a shot. I’ll remember that place forever. There’s a couple of surprises inside the restaurant that I hope the fans get a kick out of when they see it.”
Segarra then talked about wrestling in his home with his three kids.
“I’m the champ in my house,” Segarra proclaimed. “I’ve got three little boys, so there’s a lot of razor’s edges, a lot of tombstones, you know? A lot of elbow drops from the top rope. I’m the champ. Until they get older, they ain’t gonna be Papa Bear.”
In discussing the 2019 sitcom The Moodys, Segarra revealed his experience working with fellow crew member Denis Leary.
“Incredible,” Segarra reflected. “I’ve gotten to work with Dennis before. He was actually my boss before though. Him and Bob Fisher, who created this. So, it’s Bob Fisher, Rod Greenberg, and Tad Quill. They are writers, they are showrunners. They’re the best, you know? They made the Moody’s. So, Dennis and Bob actually were the showrunners of a show called Sirens that I did many years ago in Chicago. You guys actually talked to my buddy Mike Mosley about that. So, it’s working with them again. It’s my second time working with Bob and Rob, his writing partner. So, working with Dennis, I laugh because the Dennis we all know is hilarious. He can drop a quick edgy joke at the drop of a dime, but the Dennis that you get to know over this time, I love him so much. He’s all heart, he cares about everybody, he wants everybody to be comfortable and happy, and he works hard. So, getting to play with Dennis like this is always a treat.”
Segarra was then asked about his favorite scene in the hit television series.
“I leave my girlfriend Cora at the party. Marco does that a couple of times throughout The Moodys. So, I leave her at a party and I come back to the house and I tell her a quick little story of how I saw Scottie Pippen. And I think that Marco’s one of those guys that, he geeks out about things like that, just the way that Josh geeks out about things like that. So, anytime I get to talk about a ball player, I’m going to be excited.”
When asked if he enjoys doing comedy, here is what Segarra had to say:
“I love doing comedy because I have a lot of fun in these characters that I’ve been allowed to play along the way,” Segarra remarked. “And I guess I’ll put it like this, my best buddy called me yesterday, I grew up with him. His name’s Ross, shoutout to my boy. He FaceTimed me and he watched the first two episodes of The Moody’s and he was like, ‘Dude, I love this character.’ He’s like, ‘Why do I love it? Because I see my boy having so much fun.’ He hasn’t said that to me in a long time, which I loved. So, I know that he connected with it for whatever reason. So, I guess that’s where it is. I have a lot of fun in these comedy characters. You get to go out there and you’re laughing all day at work, you know? But I’ll tell you the truth. I love getting to play villains. I love getting to play serious characters too because those guys are fun in and of themselves, you know? I love being on stage because you feel vulnerable every night, you know? You go out there and you have to tell a story where people paid a lot of money to come see a Broadway play. And you want to give them a show like it’s never happened before. You want to give them a one-time experience. So, I guess that’s the long way around saying that whatever the challenge is, to me just being in this game and getting to do this as a career, that’s been so fun for me and each character that I get to play it, just you give me the ball, I’m going to run as hard as fast as I can, and hopefully not drop it.”
Segarra currently resides in New York City along with his wife, Brace Rice, with whom he has been married to for nearly a decade, and their three sons. Segarra and his wife are both known to be sports fans.
