Jordan Claire Robbins is a Bermudian-Canadian actress and model. Robbins is best known for her role on the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy.
Jordan Claire Robbins was born on January 24, 1990 (Jordan Claire Robbins: age 33) in Bermuda.
In 2008, Robbins moved to Canada in order to attend the University of Toronto, where she double majored in psychology and drama. Once in Canada, Robbins also began her career as a model and actress.
Robbins spoke exclusively to uInterview about how she first began acting.
“I always loved writing [and] storytelling. Music was my life growing up – I’m a singer, I played piano, I played the flute. I loved being on stage more than anything – I got into musical theater when I was a kid. Then I was awakened to the possibility of film and TV,” Robbins gushed. “The moment when I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I want to do this,’ was, I remember, being the lead of the school musical, and I made my mom’s friend cry. It was a pretty heavy play – my character was going through a divorce. I’m 16 years old, and I’m singing, and my mom’s friend is crying. I was like, ‘Oh my god, I affected her. Being my character really affected her.’ That was the first moment where I was like, ‘Yeah, I want to do this for the rest of my life.'”
Robbins has guest starred in a number of popular television shows. In 2015, Robbins landed her first role by playing Julia in the FXX show Man Seeking Woman for two episodes. That same year, she worked on the Syfy science-fiction mystery series 12 Monkeys for three episodes.
In 2018, Robbins guest starred in the hit CW drama Supernatural. In 2019, she also guest starred in the CW’s iZombie, a supernatural crime series.
In 2019, Robbins got her breakout role as Grace Hargreeves in the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy. The show is adapted from a 2007 comic book series of the same name, which was created and written by the lead singer of My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way.
The series follows the lives of a group of adopted siblings. The family was famous for fighting crime as children but have now all moved on and drifted apart in the present day when the show takes place.
Robbins plays Grace, a robot and the children’s adopted mother. She appears throughout all three seasons of the television sensation. Robbins stars in The Umbrella Academy alongside Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min and Colm Feore.
In an exclusive interview with uInterview founder Erik Meers, Robbins shared her own favorite scene she filmed on The Umbrella Academy.
“In season one, there’s a scene where Luther and Allison, so Emmy [Raver-Lampman] and Tom [Hopper], are questioning me. We don’t know whether I’m bad or good or what I’m up… they just don’t know. So they’re trying to question me and I’m cooking eggs and bacon. It was so late at night and it was hour 17 in a 19 hour workday, and I was trying to multitask. I’m trying to talk to them and I’m trying to cook these eggs and bacon and I have to plate it in a smiley face for them… and as I’m doing the scene I realize I’ve plated it in two frown faces, and I was like ‘Well, this is what they’re getting’… I came over and put it in front of them and they burst out laughing, and I was trying not to laugh, and it just went downhill from there. Tom was speaking English, but it wasn’t coming out right, and we just got the giggles, and we were just like school kids,” Robbins continued. “It was very unprofessional, but it was so fun. Actually, watching it, that was one of my favorite scenes acting wise. It just goes to show, the more fun you’re having, the better the scenes turn out.”
The third season of The Umbrella Academy was released on June 22, 2022. All three seasons are now available to stream on Netflix.
In 2022, Robbins starred in the thriller Escape the Field. The movie follows six strangers, who wake up in the center of an endless cornfield. The characters have no memory of how they got into the field but must now work together in order to escape and survive.
In the movie, Robbins plays Sam, a problem-solving trauma surgeon. She spoke with uInterview about her character and the challenges she faces in this terrifying thriller film.
“I see her as a very lonely person. She has to learn to trust and let people in and to face the things she’s been avoiding her whole life,” Robbins said. “I think despite the fact that it goes against her nature and everyone’s nature in this situation to want to trust these strangers, it’s a necessity to survive.”
Robbins spoke overwhelmingly positively to uInterview of her time working on Escape the Field.
“I had so much fun on this film,” the actress said. “I just adore each and every one of the cast members, we had so much. The scenes themselves were such a joy to work with. Everybody is so talented and knocked it out of the park with their characters.”
Robbins also divulged to uInterview the mischief she got up to with Sons of Anarchy star Theo Rossi on set.
“The stuff I really remember is the bonding and the playing pranks with each other…So Theo [Rossi] and I, we were probably so sleep-deprived by this point and it just made it even funnier. We were shooting this scene and it was lots of hours in the corn and we were just kind of passing time, and we somehow got on the topic of how awkward it is when people are singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to you – and you’re just kind of waiting for the song to end and it’s super awkward. And we were like ‘How funny would it be to prank someone if it’s not their birthday, but everyone is singing “Happy Birthday” to them.’ And we were like ‘Tahirah [Sharif]. It’s got to be Tahirah.’ She has the greatest sense of humor and the greatest laugh and we just love her,” Robbins continued enthusiastically. “We arranged for this giant cake with her headshot printed on it to be made, it said ‘Happy birthday, Tahirah. We appreciate you.’ I spent hours back and forth with the cake company, we had the cake delivered, and we started spreading the word that it was Tahirah’s birthday. Then when we broke for lunch one day, everyone came out and they were all singing to her, and she was horrified…Theo and I were crying and laughing when we thought of the idea, but I still think about it and burst out laughing.”
Escape the Field is currently available to buy or rent online now.
