Gregg Sulkin (born May 29, 1992) is an English actor, best known for his work on the Disney Channel, and his current role on the MTV series Faking It.
Sulkin began acting as a child, making his debut in the 2002 British miniseries rendition of Doctor Zhivago based on the novel by Boris Pasternak. Sulkin costarred alongside Hans Matheson, Keira Knightely and Sam Neill. The exposure helped him land the role of JJ in the 2007 series As the Bell Rings, a Disney Channel UK series that was eventually adapted for American audiences. Disney liked Sulkin quite a bit, and that same year he was cast as Mason Greyback in the highly successful US Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, which helped launch not only Sulkin’s career but Selena Gomez’s as well.
Wizards of Waverly Place ran for four seasons and crossed over with other Disney Channel franchises the Suit Life on Deck and Hannah Montana. It also spawned a movie and a one-hour special The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, which Sulkin was a part of.
Concurrently, he has appeared in Pretty Little Liars playing Wesley Fitzgerald, the brother of Ezra Fitz played by Ian Harding, and starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Avalon High where he met and dated co-star Britt Robertson.
In 2014, Sulkin shed some of his Disney channel skin, starring in Affluenza, a nihilistic look at the young, beautiful and rich kids of pre-recession Long Island. The film was based largely on The Great Gatsby but through a Bret Easton Ellis Less Than Zero lens. Sulkin played Dylan Carson, who is akin to Jay Gatsby but with a darker edge.
Also in 2014, Sulkin was cast as the male lead in the MTV comedy series Faking It. Sulkin played Liam Booker, the most popular kid in his high school. Faking It proved to be a smash hit for the network, earning much critical acclaim and a slew of Teen Choice awards and nominations, ultimately coming to an end in 2016.
More recently, Sulkin starred in the 2019 film A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish alongside Disney Channel star Laura Marano. He was also cast in the Netflix sitcom Pretty Smart, which co-starred Emily Osment and ran for one season.
Sulkin found Dylan a difficult character to play. “As the movie goes on you really see who Dylan actually is and he’s not as cool and he’s not as popular as people think,” Sulkin told uInterview exclusively. “He’s actually quite dark and isolated, kind of a lone figure, which kind of proves that you can have as much money in the world, but if you don’t have friendship, you really have nothing and no community.”
Sulkin addressed his role on Pretty Little Liars. “I loved working on the show, the fans are absolutely amazing, they’re insane,” he told uInterview. “I think I gained something like 20,000 Twitter followers in about three hours when my episodes air. So, they’re very dedicated. I like the hook, the show can go on for season 29 because they have a writing team that are fantastic and they know what they’re doing and they have a bunch of actors as well who turn up on a daily basis, deliver their lines, are very well prepared and are very good.”
