Freddie Thorp is a British actor. He is best known for his roles in Netflix’s Safe and the movie Summit Fever (2022).

FREDDIE THORP BIOGRAPHY: AGE, EARLY LIFE, FAMILY, EDUCATION

Freddie Thorp was born on March 7, 1994 (Freddie Thorp: Age 29), in Chelsea, London to Antonia Manley and Nick Thorp. Thorp went to school at Summer Fields School in Oxford before going to Eton College.

In 2013 Thorp went to New York City to take classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Thorp discussed what got him interested in acting.

“My dad is a musician or was a musician in the 80s so that probably normalized the creative industry for me as a profession and perhaps I kind of looked up to it,” Thorp revealed. “I never wanted to follow him into music and obviously, I had always been fascinated with storytelling and I was like, ‘Oh, I wish I could do this for a living. Oh wait, I can do this for a living.’ I’d always go headfirst in the school plays. I was about 16 and I was doing a play and some agents happened to be watching. They approached me afterward and said, ‘Hey, have you ever thought about doing this professionally’ and I said, ‘Yeah, I have.’ That was when I kind of got signed and started taking it a bit more seriously.”

Thorp started his acting career with small roles on shows like Doctors and A Discovery of Witches. In 2016 he found his way to the big screen with roles in the movies The Head Hunter (2016), To Dream (2016) and Overdrive (2017).

Thorp returned to television in 2018 with a main role in the Netflix show Safe. In the show, Thorp played Chris Chahal, the missing 19-year-old girl’s boyfriend. In 2021 Thorp played Riven in Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga, based on the animated series Winx Club.

The actor’s most recent role was in the 2022 film, Summit Fever where he played Michael, a member of mountain climbers who get trapped on the summit by a deadly storm.

FREDDIE THORP BIOGRAPHY: SUMMIT FEVER

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Thorp talked about what it was like filming the terrifying climbing scenes with director Julian Gilbey.

“There was obviously some scary bits, but pretty soon after I signed on, I understood that Julian had a background in climbing and he’d taken on some pretty epic things himself,” Thorp revealed. “He was quickly educating me in the world of climbing from his experience purely. Then, it started to unfold more and more that perhaps they’d want me to do these things for real and I’m not one to shy away from adventure. I think probably for their own sake they probably had to feel out that I wasn’t just more brazen than I was sensible. We went to Snowdonia. Me and Julian had a weekend there with an English climbing guy. I suppose that was an audition in itself. It was a great chance to get to know Julian. We discussed the script lots and learned to climb and pretty quickly we were out there doing it for real. Pretty much all of it was real. We had to fake a few sequences, but they were on real pieces of rock and with all the real equipment. To do some of those sequences, they have to be in slightly less precarious situations than the actual film, but there wasn’t one studio shot or studio day.”

When asked about his favorite scene to shoot, Thorp said, “In all seriousness, like 60% of the scenes in this movie, and I can’t say this about many movies, is memorable for one reason or another so I could go off on a different one. I’ll say the last shot of the film. Whether you’re an actor or filming the film or just anyone doing what we did there is a pretty memorable experience.”
