ED WESTWICK BIOGRAPHY: CAREER

In 2006, Westwick made his film debut in Breaking and Entering, following an open audition casting call that was sent to the National Youth Theatre. From there, he went on to guest star in the British drama series Doctors as Holden, Casualty as Johnny Cullin, as well as Darren in Afterlife. He also played a minor role in the sci-fi/action film, Children of Men.

In 2007, Westwick gained international prominence. Not only did he appear in the comedy film Son of Rambow, but he was also cast on the CW’s hit teen drama television series Gossip Girl, where he portrayed the celebrated Chuck Bass, one of the most beloved characters in the entire show. In commenting on his role as Chuck Bass in Gossip Girl, Westwick has stated that “It’s changed my life.”

For his portrayal as Chuck, Westwick adopted an American accent based on the character Carlton Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. As a result of the series extraordinary success, Westwick was named one of 2008’s Sexiest Men Alive in the People‘s magazine, while appearing the following year on its “100 Most Beautiful” list alongside the cast of Gossip Girl. In 2008 and 2009, Westwick won awards for Best TV Villain at the Teen Choice Awards, and was named Breakthrough Talent in GQ magazine in 2010. Entertainment Weekly had also named Westwick’s character of Chuck Bass at number one in their “Best Dressed TV Characters of 2008” list, as well as in their “Best Performances” list alongside Westwick’s co-star, Leighton Meester.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Westwick revealed how he and his co-star, Louise Linton, created their romantic chemistry in Me, You, Madness.

“We met and we just hit it off,” Linton recalled.

“We really hit it off,” Westwick acknowledged. “Super chill. Just like, had a bunch of laughs. I think we both share a passion for film, obviously. When anybody’s that excited about something it’s contagious, and I saw that Louise had faith in me and she wanted to gift me that part and have trust in me. So when somebody has that for you it’s wonderful, you know? You feel free and you feel like you want to work hard and go on this adventure and all of that.”

Westwick then went on to disclose how much preparation he put in for his dance to “I’m So Excited,” in Me, You, Madness.

“I think if you look closely, you can tell not enough,” Westwick laughed. “No it was honestly man, there’s that whole dance routine in the red robe, and I was so up for it and I couldn’t wait,” Westwick admitted. “I think one of the things about this movie was when I read the script I was like, ‘I’ve never done anything like this before. This would be so, so cool.’ And so, when I had the chat with Louise at the start, and she talked to me about her vision, and just everything like that, I was just like, ‘Woah, this is gonna be a ride, man. Let’s do this! So, I feel so lucky to have been a part of this and I had such a great time making it. I love the film. You know, I think anyone who watches it,  I’m sure they’re going to take away just what a big, fun explosion of sound, color, and laughs that this is.”

When asked if he had a favorite scene in the film Me, You, Madness, this is what Westwick had to say:

“Probably when I’m about to pour the bottle of red wine on the couch, and I just love that line. ‘I will chateau lafite the eff out of this couch.’ And then we go on this back and forth.”
