Christopher Chung Biography: In His Own Words – Exclusive Video, News, Photos, Age, ‘Slow Horses’

Christopher Chung is a celebrated Australian singer and actor. He is most well-known for his captivating role as Roddy Ho in the Apple TV+ thriller series Slow Horses, which premiered in early April 2022.

CHRISTOPHER CHUNG BIOGRAPHY: AGE, EARLY LIFE, FAMILY, EDUCATION

Chung was born in July of 1988 (Christopher Chung age: 35) to a Malaysian-born father and an Irish mother. He was raised in Mount Eliza, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, and grew up to attend Padua College.

Chung was first introduced to the world of acting through a school production of Aladdin at the age of 6. He then proceeded to participate in numerous acting workshops at St. Martin’s Youth and even auditioned for singing competitions throughout his teenage years. He began his studies at university before eventually deciding to drop out. At 21, Chung decided to take an intensive course at the Ward Acting Studio in New York, before eventually relocating to London in 2012 in an attempt to jumpstart his acting career.

CHRISTOPHER CHUNG BIOGRAPHY: CAREER, SLOW HORSES

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Chung revealed his first experience acting and how he developed his passion for art.

“I used to watch my sister perform in amateur musical theater when I was about 7, 8. Seeing her on stage and seeing how alive she was, it’s something that electrified me,” Chung proclaimed. “And, you know, I carried that right all the way through my teens, and right up until I decided to move away from Australia to come to the U.K. to pursue my acting career. But I think the first role that I ever got to play was Joseph in my primary school’s nativity, a very underrated role, but I did do many levels of depth to the character with him.”

Moving on to the newly released thriller series Slow Horses, Chung went on to describe the premise of the show.

Slow Horses is set in a punishment unit of MI5 where spies that have done something to mess up their career get put, which is kind of like a purgatory somewhere between MI5 and being fired from the job,” Chung explained. “It’s like the land in between Gary Oldman‘s character Jackson Lamb. He is the head of Slough House, and his mission, I would say, is to make the slow horses’ life as miserable as possible until they decide to leave the service of their own accord. As you’ll see throughout the series, you start to understand, you start to see the slow horses be less and less useless as they start to prove themselves a little bit more, one at a time. My character Roddy Ho is the tech geek of the group. He’s the know-it-all, he has all of the answers, but doesn’t want to give any of them away. He has to really be coaxed into helping people, which is a really nice dynamic to play because he can be quite abrasive and aggressive where everyone else is trying to be very helpful and solve problems. He’s much more on the wavelength of I’d rather be at home doing my own thing, like updating my dating profile. So, it’s nice to be the outsider and to be able to sit and see what everyone else is doing while they flail around in the ocean,” Chung chuckled.

Chung was then asked to describe his favorite scene to film in the popular television series.

“I have quite a few favorites scenes,” Chung admitted. “I think the scenes that we as the slow horses get to come together is always really exciting and always a great day on set. Everyone’s dynamic of chiming in with something funny or an offer of play during the scene. It’s always quite electric when we get together. I think my favorite scene though is the café scene between me and Saskia Reeves’s character Standish, Rosalind (Eleazar) and Dustin (Demri-Burns), or Louisa and Min. Getting to play against them for a four-hander, it was great fun. And, you know, you might notice that I’m eating a bacon sandwich in that scene, of which I ate 18 of them on the day. So, that was also a bonus,” Chung laughed.

When asked about his experience working with fellow crew member Oldman, here is what the young actor had to say:

“Wonderful,” Chung declared. “Absolutely wonderful. It’s like having a grown-up kid on set. He’s still so energetic and wanting to give out offers to everyone on how to make the scene better, but really, just incredibly collaborative and always making me laugh right up until James Hawes, our director, calls action. So, you know, they say never meet your heroes, but in this instance, that’s a complete lie. You should definitely meet Gary Oldman if you can.”

CHRISTOPHER CHUNG BIOGRAPHY: PERSONAL LIFE

Chung has been together with fellow Scottish actress Frances Mayli McCann for several years. They had a traditional Chinese ceremony in Melbourne, Australia, back in 2020, before officially getting married at Bothy Glasgow, Scotland, in 2021.

Chung is a qualified personal trainer on the side.
