Brooke Shields is an American actress and model. She is best known for her roles in Pretty Baby (1978), The Blue Lagoon (1980) and Suddenly Susan (1996).

Brooke Shields was born on May 31, 1965 (Book Shields: Age 57), in Manhattan, New York to Teri and Frank Shields. Shields started working as a child model for Ivory Soap when she was 11 months old.

Shields graduated from Dwight-Englewood High School in 1983 and from Princeton University in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in French literature.

When Shields was 12 years old she was launched into fame from her controversial role as a child prostitute in the film Pretty Baby. In the film Pretty Baby, Shields plays Violet, the daughter of the prostitute Hattie. The controversy around the film comes from the fully nude scenes of Violet being photographed.

Two years later, Shields appeared as the youngest model on the cover of Vogue magazine and continued to model for brands like Calvin Klein. It was also during this time that Shields starred in the movie The Blue Lagoon (1980). The Blue Lagoon is a coming-of-age survival film with two children, Emmeline (Shields) and Richard (Christopher Atkins). Again for Shields, the movie focused on adolescent sexuality.

Shields starred in the show Suddenly Susan from 1996 to 2000, from which she earned an award for Favorite Female Performer in a New Television Series from People’s Choice Award. Throughout the 90s and 00s Shields made guest appearances on shows such as That 70’s Show, The Simpsons, Hannah Montana, The Middle and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

During the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, the two-part documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields premiered. This documentary reveals what life for Shields was like growing up in the public eye and how she dealt and continues to deal with, the damage that resulted from early sexualization.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Shields divulged her feelings surrounding the documentary, “I’m not sure that I would have been able to come through all of it with the same strength that I did in these days because we didn’t have social media so I think it’s a different animal.”

Shields continued, “You know what makes me even more proud? I kept learning and growing and sort of defying the odds,” Shields told uInterview exclusively. “That I didn’t let one door closed stop me from growing as an actor and a performer.”

BROOKE SHIELDS BIOGRAPHY: PERSONAL LIFE

In 1993 Shields began to date tennis player Andre Agassi and married him in 1997. However, the marriage didn’t last long as the relationship grew toxic between the two. Agassi would become jealous of Shields’ roles on screen, such as the time she was in Friends and had to flirt with Matt LeBlanc‘s character, Joey. Shield herself also had a lot of childhood trauma and often struggled because of it. Shields filed for divorce in 1999.

Later that same year, Shields met her future husband Chris Henchy. The two dated for a year before getting engaged and marrying in 2001. They have two daughters together, Rowan and Grier Henchy.

In 2005, Shields went on The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss her struggles with postpartum depression. Thanks to Shields’ book about her experience, Down Came the Rain, awareness of postpartum depression in the public rose.
