Selena Gomez Goes On Secret Trip To Kenya With WE Foundation

Selena Gomez took to her Instagram this week to reveal that she had been in Kenya for a ten days. She was on a private charity mission hosted by the WE Foundation, which is an educational partner operating on collaborative programs globally.

She was cryptic about the trip’s purpose, however in a series of photographs, she posted, she said, “I will share so many of these stories and voices. Voices that need to be heard. We are working on something so special that will hopefully change so many lives. This is all I can post for now. @wemovement you do INCREDIBLE things and I’m honored to be a part of the family! Just the beginning…my heart will be dedicated to people and serving.”

This is not Gomez’s first time creating projects that have served others, earlier this year she executive produced the Netflix six-part documentary series, Living Undocumented, which followed the lives of immigrant families living undocumented under the Trump administration.

Gomez, who comes from an immigrant background herself, felt the importance on another level saying, “I hope to see change.”

Gomez also produced the first season of the hit Netflix show, 13 Reasons Why, which although was controversial was credited to sparking conversations about teen mental health and suicide.

Selena’s friend, Raquelle Stevens, also accompanied her on the trip and took to her Instagram to talk about the trip. “During one of our afternoons, we had the opportunity to bead jewelry with a group of local mamas. Even though we didn’t speak the same language, we had the best time together and were able to connect through eye contact, smiles, laughter, and hugs,” she wrote.

On top of all that, Gomez is releasing her first studio album in four years, Rare, which is out January 10.
