Google Home Max Review: Loud Sound For A Single Speaker

The Google Home Max launched last month at a $399.99 price-point. Two colors – charcoal and chalk – are available, and although a Home Max is expensive, it’s a speaker that delivers powerful sound.

GOOGLE HOME MAX REVIEW

If you need a loud speaker for your home, this is one of the best options on the market. Yes, a strong stereo would be superior to the Home Max, and if you’re thinking of synchronizing two Home Maxes together, CNET advices against the idea. However, as a singular speaker, Google’s Home Max is a good option, with the Sonos Play 5 as its only true peer. Therefore, if you want a clean-looking, easy-to-use device to listen to music, Google’s latest speaker is worth considering, especially since it bestows ready access to over 40 million songs via “YouTube Music, Spotify, Pandora and more.”

As to be expected, the Home Max is fully compatible with Google Assistant, and the six built-in microphones assure you your unit will hear you. It also has two inputs, one 3.5mm auxiliary input and a USB-C port, and it also has a pair of 4.5-inch high-excursion dual voice-coil woofers and a pair 0.7-inch custom tweeters. Bluetooth and Chromecast are supported, too. Buttons affixed to the top of the machine control the device, allowing you to play or pause a song and adjust its volume. One of the Home Max’s luxuries is its Smart Sound feature, which will fine-tune your machine based on where it’s situated.

However, aside from the price, there is one other deterrent to the Google Home Max. Those who use one or Chromecast have reported how their Wi-Fi routers have crashed. Google is aware of the issue, however, and posted a support page for it. The company plans to start distributing updates through the Google Play Store on January 18.
