Drone enthusiasts will fall in love with the DJI Mavic Pro, a drone that’s size and weight might not seem like much, but it has a lot to offer with its cutting-edge features and high-definition viewing. Let’s review the good and the bad of the DJI Mavic Pro.
DJI Mavic Pro can be compared to the DJI Phantom 4, which is a bigger and more professionally developed DJI drone. Think of the DJI Mavic Pro as the Phantom 4’s little brother. It offers similar specs as the Phantom 4, such as the good quality 4K camera, speed (able to fly more than 40 miles per hour), waypoint functions and tap-to-fly functions and comes with the visual tracking and obstacle avoidance features as well.
Heres what you get with the DJI Mavic Pro:
THE GOOD: The Mavic Pro offers similar specs as the Phantom 4, but its folding parts are what capture many reviewers. The Mavic Pro’s arms fold in, which makes it much easier for travel. The user can also rest assured knowing things won’t break easily. The Mavic Pro features Intelligent Flight Modes such as Waypoint and Tapfly. This gives the Mavic Pro the ability to maneuver through the air with limited effort/worry. The ActiveTrack function allows the Mavic Pro’s camera to recognize a subject and keep that subject frame-centered as the device moves about. Also, the obstacle avoidance technology is a blessing within itself.
THE BAD: The smaller size has pros and cons. At roughly 1.6 pounds, maneuvering the device through gusty winds can prove to be difficult at times. The gimbal (which stabilizes the camera in the air and allows it to pan up and down) is a bit fussy, which can cause the camera to take unsteady images. The user can calibrate the gimbal, but it can prove to be a nuisance when the device is mid-air.
Overall, the DJI Mavic Pro is a good drone to have for both novice users and the self-acclaimed drone expert. It will require some test runs to get the hang of things, but after that it’s smooth sailing (or flying in this case). It is available for $1000, almost $200 less than the Phantom 4. If you’re looking to get the Phantom 4, the DJI Mavic Pro might be a better alternative to start off with as the Phantom 4 can prove to be more than a beginner can handle.
