Walking Dead and Black Panther actress Danai Gurira made a huge impression on the red carpet at this year’s Oscars, for both her dress and her hairstyle.

Gurira wore a blush-pink strapless gown by Gabriela Hearst last Sunday. The silk dress features a rounded neckline and bare back, but flows from the lower back with a long train.

She also paired the dress with a diamond choker and matching ear cuff and bracelet by Messika Jewelry.

Gurira complimented her dress with simple, yet elegant makeup. She was seen on the red carpet with a smokey cat-eye with a dark burgundy lip color.

However, to contrast with her simple ensemble, Gurira also rocked a head stamp on the red carpet. Her hairstylist, Vernon Scott, who has worked with other celebrities like Amber Rose, Zayn Malik and Kanye West, made sure that she would stand out on Oscar night. For Scott, this was more of about art than a hairstyle. He shared photos on his Instagram and said in his caption that “African Ancestral Tribal face paint … was the inspiration and the artistic direction I took for Danai’s Hair.” He then calls her hairstyle a “visual statement.”
