Greetings From Tim Buckley, a film about the relationship between Tim Buckley and Jeff Buckley, the father and son who both made lasting impressions in folk music, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Tuesday.

Penn Badgley, plays the late Jeff Buckley in the film, and according to some, may have had his post- Gossip Girl break. When the film premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film festival, The Hollywood Reporter's Deborah Young stated that he gave a "vibrant break-out performance" and noted his "seductive energy in the role."

Badgley got the role after he sent in a tape of himself singing. Committed to being as believable as possible, the 26-year-old actor then took guitar and vocal lessons to better his skills. Gary Lucas, a former collaborator with Jeff Buckley, helped with the film's music direction, and spent time playing and rehearsing with Badgley.

Greetings from Tim Buckley opens in 1991, showing Jeff Buckley preparing for his singing debut at a tribute show for his late father, Tim Buckley, in Brooklyn. When Jeff meets an inspiring young woman who was working at the event, he starts to find his own voice as an artist .

English actress Imogen Poots and William Sadler also star in the Daniel Algrant helmed biopic .
