Before Midnight, the third installment in Richard Linklater’s love story of a predestined couple played by Ethan Hawke and Julie Deply, picks up nine years after Before Sunset’s storyline came to a close. The film will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this week.
In Before Sunrise (1995) and Before Sunset (2004), the crux of the plot revolved around the “will they, won’t they” question. In Before Midnight, Hawke’s and Delpy’s characters are married with children and on a vacation in Greece. The question now is whether or not their pull to one another is as magnetic, or if the chemistry and romance has fizzled as the chase for one another has ended.
Like with Before Sunset, Linklater, Hawke and Delpy teamed up in writing the script for Before Midnight. They received an Academy Award nomination for their screenwriting on the 2004 film.
