Lady Gaga just announced her first SXSW performance on March 13, the Born This Way Foundation night on Doritos’ #BoldStage. To win tickets, fans must prove their boldness. Gaga and Doritos have created a list of “Bold” challenges, called “Bold Missions,” which give fans opportunities to prove themselves and win tickets.
“I hope everyday to inspire my fans to follow their dreams, hold their talents precious and go for it. Doritos is supporting this same message. I always say, ‘I hope to spread love with every invention,’ and I’m excited to see how the crowd at SXSW will spread their own mantras,” Gaga told Billboard in a statement.
Most of the missions will be announced in the days leading up to the concert, but you can preview them on the official Doritos website. Those already active include #BoldBravery, encouraging fans to share an act of bravery, #BoldSwap, which asks fans to exchange styles with a buddy, #BoldUpdate, which asks people to change their relationship status on Facebook or other social media sites, and #BoldMoves, which asks fans to perform their craziest robot dance. Future challenges include #BoldSuitcase, #BoldHaircut and #BoldDerby.
Another highly anticipated SXSW show is the iTunes Music Festival. iTunes Music Festival will span five nights and will stream live on iTunes, where you can watch for free live or after the fact. Headliners Coldplay, Kendrick Lamar, Soundgarden, Pitbull and Keith Urban will all take over the Moody Theater. Starting Sunday, March 9, SXSW attendees can enter to win tickets to the shows, and the shows are open to certain SXSW badge types. You can check eligibility here.
The festival kicks off Tuesday, March 11, with London Grammar, Imagine Dragons and Coldplay. Wednesday, March 12 the festival will go into rap/hip-hop with Isaiah Rashad, ScHoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar. Thursday night, the festival switches gears going into metal and rock ‘n roll with Capital Cities, Band of Skulls and Soundgarden. Friday, March 14 will showcase G.R.L., a newly formed girl group, ZEDD, an electo-house DJ, and Pitbull. Finally, the festival will wrap up Saturday, March 15 with an all-star country lineup starting with Mickey Guyton, followed by Willie Nelson and Keith Urban.
Other musical highlights include two performances from British band The Kooks, and R&B/Hip-hop star Kelis, who is playing three shows at the festival. Kelis, best known for her 2003 hit “Milkshake” is releasing a new album inspired by her new passion for cooking (she completed a year and a half long cordon bleu course) entitled Food. Miley Cyrus collaborator and fiancé to singer Ciara, Future, will also be performing at the festival.
