'Before I Disappear' Premieres At SXSW With Shawn Christensen, Fatima Ptacek, Emmy Rossum, Ron Perlman, Paul Wesley

Director/writer/actor Shawn Christensen and stars Emmy Rossum, Ron Perlman and more attended the Before I Disappear SXSW premiere and Supper Suite by STK after party Monday, March 10.

Before I Disappear features Christensen and Fatima Ptacek reprising their roles as Richie, a depressed and desperate young man, and Sophie, his eleven-year-old niece, who he is tasked with watching for a few hours at the last minute. The film also stars Emmy Rossum (Shameless), Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries) and Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy).

The principal cast had fun at the festival promoting the film, as evidenced by their enthusiastic Twitter activity. Following the premiere, Perlman tweeted out to his fans, praising the film, calling Before I Disappear a “masterpiece.”

Christensen was excited to premiere his feature debut at SXSW because of the eclectic nature of the festival, which covers everything from tech to music. As a musician, Christensen says his film is fairly musical, and he was happy to premiere it in a place where music was also being appreciated and explored alongside film.

“This is a music-driven film, and SXSW is one of the best music festivals in the world. I played SXSW twice with my band in the past, and for my first feature to premiere there… it’s perfect, honestly. It feels like I’m able to represent both my love for film and for music at a festival that supports those arts in a major way. It’s exciting,” Christensen said.

After the premiere, the cast and crew gathered at Supper Suite By STK for the after party, enjoying music featured in the film, played from a playlist prepared by Christensen. The soundtrack also included some music that Christensen said he would have liked to have included in the film, but “couldn’t afford.”

Before I Disappear still has one more SXSW screening at the Stateside Theater Friday, March 14.
