U2 Confirmed To Perform 'Ordinary Love' At The Oscars

U2 announced that they would be performing their Oscar-nominated song, “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom at the Academy Award ceremony on March 2.

U2 members Bono (Paul David Hewson), The Edge (Dave Evans), Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen will join fellow nominees Pharrell Williams, who will be performing “Happy” from Despicable Me 2, and Idina Menzel, performing “Let it Go” from Frozen, on the Oscar stage. Presumably, Karen O will also be performing her Oscar-nominated song, “The Moon Song” from Her, though her appearance has yet to be confirmed.

“Ordinary Love” won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song, and U2 recently opened up about their involvement with Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, saying they were approached by studio head Harvey Weinstein and simply could not refuse.

“This was the one project you just couldn’t say no to. For our generation, South Africa was a real illustration of how music could affect change in the world, and it was a right of passage in terms of our political awareness,” said Clayton.

The 86th Oscars, hosted for the second time by Ellen DeGeneres, will air Sunday, March 2, 2014 live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
