Idina Menzel To Perform "Let It Go" From 'Frozen' At The Oscars

Idina Menzel, star of Frozen, has confirmed she will be performing the film’s Oscar nominated (and signature) song, “Let It Go” live at the 86th Academy Awards in March.

Menzel, a Broadway vet, will be performing at the Oscars for the first time. In Disney’s animated hit, Frozen, Menzel voices Princess Elsa, a young woman who has magical powers that can manipulate weather and snow. “Let It Go” is Elsa’s anthem, and it has become a viral hit. The Frozen soundtrack is currently number one on the Billboard 200 Charts and has reportedly sold 863,000 copies since it was released Nov. 26, 2013.

“Let It Go” is a favorite to win Best Original Song at the Oscar ceremony, though it faces tough competition. While Frozen won Best Animated Feature at the Golden Globes, it failed to obtain the Globe for Best Original Song, beat out by fellow Oscar nominees U2 for their song from Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.

Of all the fellow nominees, which include “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom performed by U2, “Happy” from Despicable Me 2 and performed by Pharrell and “The Moon Song” from Her performed by Karen O. of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, covered by Scarlett Johansson in the film, only one has been confirmed to perform at the Oscars. Pharrell announced he would be taking the Oscar stage a week ago, on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Perhaps this means we can expect another artist to confirm their performance at the Academy Awards next Tuesday.

The 86th Oscars, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, will air Sunday, March 2, 2014 live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
