Christoph Waltz, 56, proved for the second time that he's Oscar material when he nabbed the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Dr. King Schultz, a bounty hunter, in Django Unchained, directed by Quentin Tarantino and also starring Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson. Waltz's previous win was for his breakout role in Tarantino's 2009 Inglourious Basterds.
Waltz beat out and entire category filled with heavy-hitters: Alan Arkin for Argo, Philip Seymour Hoffman for The Master, Tommy Lee Jones for Lincoln, and Robert De Niro for Silver Linings Playbook.
During his speech, Waltz ascribed credit to Tarantino. "We participated in a hero's journey," Waltz said of his director in his acceptance speech. "The hero being Quentin," he clarified.
