Barbra Streisand, 70, performed her legendary "The Way We Were" after the In Memoriam montage at Sunday night's Oscars — the annual tribute to those Academy members who passed away over the past year, one of whom was composer Marvin Hamlisch, with whom Streisand collaborated on the song.
"Marvin Hamlisch was a composer of extraordinary depth and versatility," Streisand began before she launched into the song. "He was also a very kind and generous friend who could always make me laugh."
Streisand, dressed in a black gown with gold beading, a black bejeweled choker, and long strands of golden necklaces, went on about her close relationship with Hamlisch. "Over the years, we shared many adventures together. Marvin left us way too soon, but I'll always have those wonderful, wonderful memories," she said, launching into the song on the last word.
