Academy Launches Exclusive Oscars App

In January, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences introduced a free Oscars App, which allows fans to learn more about this year's nominees, participate in interactive award ballots, and watch behind-the-scenes footage of the show's making and predicted fashion right from their iPods and phones.

“Our goal is to create a really full, immersive experience leading up to, during and after the Oscars,” said Karin Gilford, SVP of Digital Media for ABC Television Network in a statement. "We want this to be the next best thing to attending the show itself.”

On Oscar night, which is this Sunday, fans will be given exclusive access to the nominees and winners at Dolby Theater through Backstage Pass. Backstage Pass will offer several different real-time camera views of fan favorites. Among the cams will be a Thank You Cam off-stage for winners to thank any other influences, a Control Room Cam which will follow the director and producers, and the Press Room Cam, which will allow fans to watch winners interact with the media. On Monday, viewers will be able to relive acceptance speeches and other memorable moments through the app.

The Oscars air live this Sunday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. EST on ABC, so download the app before it's too late.
