Oscar Nominations By The Numbers

The nominations for the 84th Academy Awards are in as of today, and we've already told you who's in — and who's out. But on top of all that, there's still a mess of trivia to make sense of before you host your own Oscars party on Sunday, February 26, so we're going to break it down for you by the numbers.

17 — number of nominations Meryl Streep has received, as of today, the most of any actor, male or female, living or dead

2 — number of times Streep has won (for Kramer vs. Kramer and Sophie's Choice)

29 — number of years that have passed since Streep last won an Oscar, in 1983

11 — number of nominations awarded to Hugo, the most of any film this year (The Artist came in second with 10)

2 — number of films that have received 11 nominations without winning any awards (The Turning Point and The Color Purple)

11 — record for number of Oscars awarded to a single film, held by three titles: Ben Hur (1959), Titanic (1997), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

23 — number of nominations Woody Allen has received, for a combination of writing, directing and acting

3 — number of Oscars Allen has won

12 — number of nominations Allen has received since the last time he won (Best Screenplay for Hannah and Her Sisters, 1987)

5 — number of Best Director nominations Martin Scorsese received before he won, in 2007, for The Departed
