Filled with action and tension, the season finale “We Have Manners. We’re Polite,” leaves us in anticipation for the next season to arrive. Vee (Lorraine Toussaint) plots to get out of trouble by getting Black Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore) and Janae (Vicky Jeudy) to tell the men investigating Red’s (Kate Mulgrew) attack that they believe Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) committed the crime. Blindly, and stupidly, following Vee, the two follow their orders and Crazy Eyes becomes the number one suspect in the case, even though many inmates said they believed Vee attacked Red. To get herself out of trouble, Vee tells Crazy Eyes that she was the one who attacked Red and Crazy Eyes begins to believe that she was the one who did it. When questioned, Crazy Eyes tells the police she is confused and doesn’t remember it but that she attacked Red. The investigators, who don’t feel like dealing with a longer process, accept Crazy Eyes’ confession.

Meanwhile, Red wakes up in the hospital and, when questioned, tells the police that she didn’t know who attacked her, though she knew very well it was Vee. In the hospital bed next to Red, Sister Jane Ingalls (Beth Fowler) tells her she should tell the police Vee attacked her because Vee could harm other people. Eventually, Red and the Sister make a pact that Red will tell the police that Vee hit her if the Sister breaks her hunger strike. The Sister has a hard time breaking the strike because a band of loyal followers (a group of nuns) joined her strike and protested in front of Litchfield Penitentiary. Red asks to speak to Healy (Michael Harney) and she tells him the truth, but he says it’s too late. However, he wants to be known as a good guy again, so he has Officer Luschek (Matt Peters) forge a work order saying that Crazy Eyes was in the electrical shop during the time of the attack, so that the investigation would open up again. Black Cindy and Janae realize the error of their ways when Vee blames them for her missing heroin and threatens to kill Black Cindy. Vee’s former followers all tell the police it was Vee who attacked Red. Back together, Black Cindy, Janae, Taystee (Danielle Brooks) and Poussey (Samira Wiley) corner Vee and tell her she’s done running their lives. Taystee tells Vee, “Here’s the thing about Mommas…they’re only Mommas as long as they got kids.”

Alex (Laura Prepon) visits Piper (Taylor Schilling) and tells her she’s so scared of being killed by the leader of their drug ring that she sleeps with a gun. Piper also gets a visit from the new couple, Larry (Jason Biggs) and Polly (Maria Dizzia), who ask for her blessing. Piper furiously tells them she will not give them her blessing, but then calls them a few days later to ask for a favor. Polly agrees to call Alex’s probation officer and tell him that Alex plans to leave New York.

The drama in the prison staff continues as Caputo (Nick Sandow) finally gets Fig (Alysia Reiner) fired with the help of Piper. Fig confesses to Caputo that she saw her husband cheating on her with a man as she cries and begs for sympathy. Caputo then tells her that he already gave all the files showing she embezzled money to the warden. Though Caputo thought it would blow up and land Fig all over the news, the warden kept it quiet because he didn’t want a scandal or to have any problems with Fig’s politician husband. As the new assistant warden, Caputo earns the inmates’ trust when he cancels the transfers of Piper, Maria Ruiz (Jessica Pimentel) and Sister Ingalls.

The craziness happens towards the end of the episode. Healy goes looking for Vee after he and the investigating officers realize she’s the culprit, but can’t seem to find her. Knowing she is about to be caught, Vee uses the tunnel Red used to smuggle to escape from the prison. Caputo puts the prison on lockdown and the women are shown acting more like they did in the beginning of the series. Black Cindy, Janae, Poussey and Taystee are talking and laughing, Crazy Eyes is crying hysterically clutching the Uno cards Vee gave her and Nicky (Natasha Lyonne) is staring longingly at the heroin she and Big Boo are hiding from Vee. As Litchfield remains on lockdown, Morello (Yael Stone) arrives back at the prison from her hospital visit with Rosa (Barbara Rosenblat), who just found out she only has a few weeks to live. Morello knows Rosa fears dying in the prison and wishes she could “go out” in a more exciting way. As the two inmates sit in the van waiting for the lockdown to end, Morello tells Rosa to take the van and get out as fast as possible. Morello gets out of the van to ask an officer what’s going on, giving Rosa the opportunity to escape.

The season finale closes with Rosa speeding out of the prison confines, feeling alive once again. She sees Vee on her way down the street and swerves to hit her because she hated how rude Vee always was to her and to other inmates. Then, Rosa continues on her high-speed drive down the road and is shown as her younger self, smiling and enjoying life once again.
