'Orange Is The New Black' Episode 2.12 Recap: "It Was the Change"

The insanity caused by Vee (Lorraine Toussaint) continues in episode 12. The Golden Girls decide they can use stabbing the wrong person as a message to Vee, so she doesn’t think they were trying to kill her. Poussey (Samira Wiley), highly intoxicated again, smashes all the cans of tobacco that Vee stored for her cigarette business. After Taystee (Danielle Brooks) takes the fall for Poussey and is kicked out of the “family," she finally sees Vee’s evil ways.

Through flashbacks, we see how quickly Vee really can turn on the people she calls her family. The audience finds out that Vee, with the help of a police officer, found out that RJ (Eric D. Hill Jr.) has been starting his own business. She confronted RJ and pretended to forgive him when he offered her a percentage of his profits. Vee pretends to forgive him, sleeps with him and then has the police officer kill him. Back in the present, Taystee has no friends and is incredibly lonely for most of the episode. Fortunately, Taystee and Poussey, one of the greatest duos in Orange is the New Black, make up.

Meanwhile, a storm has flooded Litchfield and the inmates are forced to all stay in one room together until the power returns. There, Red (Kate Mulgrew) fears that Vee will kill her, as the room has no walls of separation, so she and her crew take shifts sleeping. An unlikely friendship forms between Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning) and Big Boo (Lea DeLaria) and all the women join Soso (Kimiko Glenn) in a sing along.

The assistant warden (Alysia Reiner) fears she will be caught in her embezzlement scheme, but that isn’t her only worry. While attending a dinner party with her politician husband, Fig finds her husband (Peter Rini) in a hallway kissing a man. Clearly, she is crushed because she thought he loved her and she became involved in illegal activities for him.

The episode ends with Red alone in the greenhouse as Vee approaches. Though she “forgave” Red for trying to kill her, Vee looks like she’s out for blood. Once again, Vee manipulated Red into believing they could be on good terms again. Vee hits Red multiple times with a sock that has a lock in it. Is Red going to survive the blows to the head?
