Throughout most of Orange is the New Black, fans have wondered how a sweet, old nun could be in prison. Episode 11 shows Sister Jane Ingalls (Beth Fowler) from her first days as a nun. When she first began her life as a nun, she attended a protest against war with two other new nuns. One of the women lied to Sister Ingalls and told her that they got permission to go to the protest, but the nuns end up in trouble. After her first taste of protest, Sister gets too involved with other protests because she loves the fame she receives. After protesting often to get notoriety, and writing a book, called “Nun Shall Pass,” Sister is called a narcissist and is excommunicated from the Church.

Now, in Litchfield, Sister goes overboard once again when Soso (Kimiko Glenn) starts a group to protest the prison conditions and the way the prison simply released Jimmy (Patricia Squire), though she had no family and had severe dementia. Soso, Yoga Jones (Constance Shulman) and Sister go on a hunger strike. After Sister passes out, the prison takes her to the hospital to force her to get nourished. She continues to fight as the hospital gives her an IV.

Polly (Maria Dizzia) and Larry (Jason Biggs) sit Pete (Nick Stevenson), Polly’s husband, down to tell him about their affair. After Polly tells Pete she’s leaving him, Pete punches Larry in the face. Now, Polly and Larry feel free to have a relationship, since Pete and Piper (Taylor Schilling) now know the truth.

Healy (Sam Healy) calls Piper in to tell her that she’s being transferred to Virginia. This hurts Piper significantly because she was supposed to see Alex (Laura Prepon) at the next visiting day to talk about what happened in court. Piper fears for Alex because, due to an error in court, the drug boss has been released and wants to find Alex to get revenge for her naming him in court.

Taslitz (Judith Roberts), one of the Golden Girls, decides she must kill Vee (Lorraine Toussaint) in order for Red (Kate Mulgrew) to be happy and live her life in prison. She finds Vee and follows her down a hallway; however, she stabs the wrong person. Trouble seems to follow Vee wherever she goes.
