In light of Fast & Furious star Paul Walker’s sudden death, Universal Studios has announced that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Fast & Furious 6 Extended Version DVD will go to Walker’s charity, Reach Out Worldwide (ROWW).
ROWW’s mission is to bring relief teams to areas recovering from natural disasters. Founded by Walker in 2010 after the Haiti earthquakes, the non-profit organization prides itself on getting first responders on the scene quickly and effectively.
“The volunteers provide their expertise when disasters strike and augment local resources with the goal of accelerating relief efforts on a worldwide basis. ROWW has developed Standard Operating Procedures that facilitate arriving quickly, clearing access, providing basic necessities and medical assistance to ease the survivors’ pain and bringing hope in the bleakest of circumstances,” ROWW states on their official website.
Walker had a reputation of being a family man and a huge supporter of charity work in Hollywood. In his first interview following Walker’s death, Fast & Furious co-star Dwayne Johnson noted that Walker didn’t live for his work as an actor, but for his role as a father and as a humanitarian.
“That was one of the interesting things about Paul: his reservations about being in the spotlight and being a star, whatever the definition of that may be. He was motivated by work that allowed him to take care of his family, number one, and that also allowed him the power and the leverage to help people in need and in crisis,” Johnson told Entertainment Weekly.
Jordana Brewster, who played Walker’s love interest in the Fast & Furious franchise, echoed Johnson’s sentiments in her own statement, saying “While many would be satisfied with material success it made Paul more convinced of the need to help others. He never spoke of him immense generosity or philanthropic endeavors unless I prodded, however. This is what made Paul, Paul.”
Walker’s friends and family have requested that fans and friends wanting to pay their respects to Walker donate to ROWW in lieu of sending flowers or gifts to the family.
“ROWW operates on the philosophy that by making a difference in just one person’s life, the world has changed for the better.”
