Prince Harry Will Spend Christmas In Afghanistan

We hope Prince Harry had his fill of fun in Las Vegas earlier this year, as the third heir to the British throne has just been informed that his military tour in Afghanistan will be extended until early 2013 — meaning he won't be home for Christmas. Harry was deployed as an Apache Helicopter pilot last September, after returning from a scandalous summer vacation in Nevada. "He's approached the deployment with a range of emotions like any other soldier and feels both pride and anticipation as he deploys for a job he's trained for, for so long," a St. James's Palace spokesman said at the time of his deployment.

Harry has been stationed at Camp Bastion in southern Afghanistan, where he is part of the 662 Squadron, 3rd Regiment of the Army Air Corps, whose mission it is to "provide surveillance, deterrence and, when required, close combat attack capabilities as well as escort duties for other aircraft." The original four-month stint has since been extended into sometime next year. This will be the second year that Harry misses the holidays at home, as he was also deployed in the winter of 2007.
