Voting For 2015 Oscar Nominees Ends

Voting for the Academy Award nominees ended on Jan. 6, and the official nominations will be announced one week later on Thursday, Jan. 15.

Members of the Academy were mailed nomination ballots in December. Not all members get to vote in all categories for nominations, unlike for the final vote, where members can vote to choose the winner in all categories if they so desire. Each award is separated into a category, and only Academy members from those categories can vote for the nominations. For example, only actors can nominate actors, only sound editors can nominate sound editors and so on. However, special committees determine the final nominations for both the Animated Feature Film and Foreign Language Film categories. All members are allowed to vote for the Best Picture nominees.

The nomination ballots will be tallied by PricewaterhouseCoopers, an accounting firm, and then the official nominations for the 2015 Oscars will be announced in Beverly Hills at 5:30 a.m. (PT) on January 15.

After the nominees are announced, final ballots will be mailed out to Academy members. Members have until Sunday, Feb. 15, to vote.

The Oscars hosted by Neil Patrick Harris will air live Sunday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT.
