Jennifer Hudson has been added to the long list of Oscar performers, including Anna Kendrick and Jack Black, though what the Oscar-winner will be performing exactly remains a mystery.
Hudson, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Dreamgirls, confirmed she would be performing at the Oscars on Tuesday, Feb. 10, just days after it was announced that Anna Kendrick would also be performing at the Oscars.
Little is known about what exactly Hudson and Kendrick will be doing at the awards ceremony, but Kendrick’s appearance could possibly be tied to her starring role in the Oscar-nominated Into The Woods. Hudson’s role at the show, however, is a bit more mysterious as she has been focusing on her music as of late and did not appear in any nominated films this year. Furthermore, on Feb. 5, the Academy announced that Jack Black would also be performing at the Academy Awards.
In the official announcements, Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said that the actors would each be participating in a “special” performance:
Jack Black: “Jack Black is a complete original comic voice and we’re beyond thrilled that he has agreed to join the Oscars show in a very special sequence.”
Anna Kendrick: “Out of the woods and on to the Oscar stage, Anna will be performing something special that is sure to be an ‘Only on the Oscars’ moment.”
Jennifer Hudson: “We’re creating several musical sequences for the Oscars and we couldn’t be happier that our friend, Jennifer Hudson, will be performing in one of them.”
Whether or not Black, Kendrick and Hudson will perform together remains to be seen, as will the nature of their performance. Special performances in the past have ranged from the more sobering to the comedic. In fact, Black himself performed a comedic song at the 79th Academy Awards with Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.
The 87th Academy Awards, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, will air live Sunday, Feb. 22 on ABC.
