Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel picked up nine nominations each and Meryl Streep earned her 19th acting nomination when the 2015 Oscar nominees were announced Thursday morning.

The 2015 Oscars nominations were announced early Thursday morning, with big Golden Globe winners Birdman and Boyhood earning nine and six nominations, respectively. More surprising nominations came courtesy of Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, which tied with Boyhood at six nominations, including a out-of-the-blue Best Actor nomination for star Bradley Cooper. Cooper’s nomination is especially surprising given the Academy’s decision not to nominate Jake Gyllenhaal, whose performance in Nightcrawler earned him early Oscar buzz, or Selma’s David OyelowoWhiplash wracked up an impressive five nominations, including a Best Picture nod, Best Supporting Actor for JK Simmons and Best Adapted Screenplay for writer/director Damien Chazelle.
