First Lady Michelle Obama was in New York Wednesday to listen to a speech her husband, President Barack Obama, gave to the United Nations General Assembly. She wore a purple dress and coat by designer Peter Som, New York Magazine reports. Mrs. Obama later changed into gray checkered dress and black jacket for the return flight to Washington, D.C.
This is not the first time Mrs. Obama has worn a Som original. In fact, Som is one of her favorite designers whom she often wears to high-profile outings. In May, as she departed London after a three-day visit, Mrs. Obama wore an ombre purple dress from Som's fall 2010 collection, which she accented with a decorative brooch.
Ms. Obama is known for her generous support of young, up-and-coming designers, as well as for her impeccable taste. For her inaugural ball gown in 2009, she chose relatively obscure designer Jason Wu, who has since become a well-known favorite of many celebrity clients.
