Kanye West And Maroon 5 Slated For Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
A controversial rapper, a dreamy-eyed lead singer and a slew of svelte supermodels in barely-there bikinis and lingerie can only mean one thing: the Victoria's Secret annual fashion show is back. Just as popular for its musical acts as it is for its cheeky angels, this year's televised show will feature rapper-cum-designer Kanye West and Grammy Award-winning band, Maroon 5. The "Power" rapper-producer and "Moves Like Jagger" rockers will join the ranks of Victoria's Secret headliners including Usher, Seal, Destiny's Child and Katy Perry.
Adam Levine, frontman for Maroon 5, should make a rather smooth transition to the primetime performance as he's held a recurring vocal coach role on NBC's The Voice, alongside Cee-Lo Green and Christina Aguilera. He and his bandmates are expected to perform hits from their three albums, Songs About Jane, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, and their most recent project, Hands All Over.
West, on the other hand, isn't riding this fashion show/concert gig solely off of his successful music career. While his two most recent albums, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch The Throne collaboration with hip-hop mogul Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter both held number one positions on the charts, the fashionable artist has ironically caught major flack for his own design debut at Paris Fashion Week. Dw, the line, named after West's late mother, Donda West, was his first true foray into womenswear and received staunch criticism from a host of industry insiders.
"Next season Kanye should get a tailor so clothes might fit," fashion critic Cathy Horyn tweeted. "Models swimming in some looks. Kills the hot look, no?" Long Nguyen, a contributer for Fashionista.com insisted "that you can’t just dump some fox fur on a runway and call it luxury.” Vogue maven Anna Wintour's review: "Ask someone else."
Still, West has seemed unfazed by the slams and may have a little extra support during the November 29 Victoria's Secret special if his rumored girlfriend, Chanel Iman, takes to the catwalk. Models Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Miranda Kerr — who'll close the show in a $2.5 million fantasy bra — will also star in the show.
