Jeremy Scott Presents Hillbilly Chic
Jeremy Scott is known for his outrageous, costume-inspired designs that have been worn on the shoulders of the likes of Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and even Miss Piggy. Fans of Scott have come to expect designs that are eye-catching, provocative and — most importantly — playful, and this year's rodeo-inspired show was no exception. From cow-print chaps to over-washed overalls to yards and yards of fringe, Scott's designs turned heads at every turn.
Once called the Jeff Koons of fashion for his pop culture-inspired designs, Scott said the genesis of the collection lay in movie western iconography. “Farm-fresh fun," he called it in the Wall Street Journal. "I was thinking of the iconography of films and television of the farm and farm life, and the beauty who doesn’t know she’s so gorgeous but has an outrageous figure. She wears a potato sack…but [I made] the potato sack now into a metal mesh so it’s sinewy and sexy.”
Like any good designer, Scott made sure the makeup and hair were a match for the funky, home-on-the-range threads. Female models walked the runway sporting painted-on freckles and goofy pigtails. Then men had little on but hair and makeup, appearing semi-nude except for leather underwear and chaps.
