The Maze Runner is gearing itself up to be one of the most talked-about films of Comic-Con with a special fan screening and Q&A Thursday night and an exclusive Maze Runner comic.
The Maze Runner will hit Comic-Con as part of the Twentieth Century Fox panel in Hall H on Friday, July 25, and is scheduled for 2 hours (beginning at 4:20 p.m.). On the official schedule for the 20th Century Fox panel are buddy comedy Let’s Be Cops, animated film The Book of Life, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Hitman: Agent 47 and, of course, The Maze Runner. While all the movies listed boast a-list casts, Maze Runner is perhaps the one with the most Comic-Con cred, having appeared last year for an off-site interview at Nerd HQ.
Comic-Con regular Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf), who stars in the film, will be sitting on the panel alongside Kaya Scodelario, Will Poulter and writer James Dashner and director Wes Ball. Attendees will also receive an exclusive Maze Runner comic, written by Ball and the screenwriter T.S. Nowlin, with art by Marcus To (Cyborg 009, Marvel’s New Warriors). The comic will be free for the over 6,000 people in the Hall H audience, and will not be available anywhere else. Furthermore, this is the first time a studio has commissioned a comic specifically for Comic-Con’s Hall H.
The comic will cover events that take place three years prior to those depicted in the film, focusing on Alby (played by Aml Ameen in the film). Originally, the story was conceived as an idea for a short film to accompany Maze Runner, but it was never shot.
Those lucky enough to get into Hall H for 20th Century Fox’s panel will receive the exclusive comic, which will include an exclusive interview with Ball on the making of the film, and will likely get to see exclusive footage from the film.
In an effort to give a publicity boost to The Maze Runner prior to its September 19 release the studio will also be hosting a fan screening at the Pacific Gaslamp Theater on Thursday, July 24, followed by a Q&A with the cast.
To get a ticket to the screening, fans have to tweet Jake Roper of VSauce (@VsauceThree) with the hashtag #MazeRunnerSDCC.
Any Maze Runner fans unable to attend the panel – or Comic-Con in general – will be able to live-stream their panel at Nerd HQ on Friday at 6 p.m. PT.
