Paris Hilton attended the Cannes Film Festival and broke the ‘No Selfie’ rule while walking on the red carpet at the Inside Out premiere.
Hilton sparkled in her sheer, bedazzled gown by Yousef Al-Jasmi at Pixar’s Inside Out premiere on Monday, and while her presence was puzzling, the controversy surrounding her appearace was due to her stop mid-carpet to take a selfie. While on the red carpet, Hilton stopped with her friend, actor Sun Zu Yang, to take a selfie – which is strictly against the Cannes Film Festival rules.
Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux banned selfies from the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, calling them “ridiculous and grotesque.” Hilton either wasn’t aware of the rule or simply did not care. “We are waging a campaign to slow down the contemporary practice of selfies on the red carpet and the steps. Beyond what we think, it’s a practice that’s often extremely ridiculous and grotesque. We have a certain amount of time to get people across the red carpet and up the steps and it really slows things down if people stop every two metres to take pictures of themselves, with themselves,” Fremaux said. Hilton isn’t the only celebrity to break the selfie ban. Eva Longoria and Salma Hayek have also reportedly broken the rule.
Hilton was just in town for the weekend to premiere her newest single, “High Off My Love,” and attend the Heart Fund’s Generous People Dinner Gala. At the event, Hilton reportedly got into a bit of a bidding war with Leonardo DiCaprio over a Chanel purse up for auction – DiCaprio ended up the victor.
