The first trailer for the Amy Winehouse documentary, Amy that got rave reviews after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival has been released.
While director Asif Kapadia promotes Amy at Cannes, the studio has released the first trailer for the film, which features behind-the-scenes footage and unreleased new songs from the singer who died of alcohol poisoning in 2011.
The troubled singer, whose misadventures with addiction were tabloid fodder leading up to her death, is seen in the trailer musing on her early career and unwanted fame. The trailer also confirms that the film will explore Winehouse’s rocky relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil.
Despite being adored by critics, the film has received a less than positive reaction from Winehouse’s friends and family. Her family have called the film “a disgrace” while others have cast doubts on the film’s credibility.
Amy will open in limited release on July 3.
