"Hugo" — Best Picture Nominee
Set in 1930s Paris and worshipful of the early days of cinema, "Hugo" is a Francophile's wet dream. Not only does young orphan Hugo Cabret encounter beaucoup de French characters as he passes in and out of the walls of a train station, but by the end he has us raptly attending a history lesson on how the great Georges Méliès made magic with a camera. Comme c'est magnifique!
