Niantic Labs is an established video game developer with a concentration on AR games. Ingress was the studio’s first title, though it was last year’s Pokémon GO that put the company’s name on the map so to speak. Given recent revelations, concern was aired amongst GO’s fanbase over Niantic’s ability to support the popular Pokémon title. Niantic responded to quell people’s fears.
It was announced on November 8 that Niantic was partnering with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and WB Games San Francisco on a Harry Potter-themed endeavor. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will allow budding wizards and witches to “learn spells, explore their real world neighborhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies.” Wizards Unite is slated for a 2018 release, and it is being produced under Warner Bros.’s new Portkey Games banner.
However, Niantic issued a statement two days later reaffirming their commitment to their collaboration with The Pokémon Company, noting how they’re “actively expanding the Pokémon GO development team to build many more amazing features in 2018.” Incidentally, Niantic is currently hiring for all of their incumbent projects: Ingress, Pokémon GO and Wizards Untie.
Moreover, in honor of this week’s release of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for the Nintendo 3DS family, outfits modeled after them were added to GO on November 13.
