After two months of separation, Zooey Deschanel, 31, has filed for divorce from Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service frontman, Ben Gibbard, 35, in Los Angeles. The New Girl star cited irreconcilable differences as the cause.

The divorce papers listed the couple's date of separation as October 31 — Halloween of last year. Deschanel had also requested to terminate Gibbard's right to spousal support, reports AceShowbiz.com.

At the time of their split, a source told Us Weekly that the separation was "mutual and amicable," and that "there was no third party involved."

The couple, who got married in 2009 outside Seattle, Washington, may be going their separate ways, but they are both keeping themselves occupied in the near future. Gibbard's band will be touring overseas for the first half of 2012, reports The Washington Post, and Deschanel is focused on promoting New Girl, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe. She also pays dedicated attention to her website, HelloGiggles, where she recently posted a New Year's duet with 500 Days of Summer costar and one of her "dearest friends," Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

You can catch The Golden Globes, hosted by the ever-entertaining Ricky Gervais, Sunday, January 15, on NBC.
