New Girl star Zooey Deschanel has announced she has converted to Judaism for her husband, Jacob Pechenik.
Deschanel wished to convert to the religion before her wedding in June. The couple wants to raise their newborn baby, Elsie, who was born in July, as a Jew.
Deschanel has stated in the past that she was never set on one religion – her mother is Roman Catholic and her father a Quaker. “My family is liberal. I was raised in the ‘you can be whatever you want’ kind of way. And in the end, I was like, ‘Eh,'” she says of her parents’ religious influence on her.
Her hit show New Girl finished its fourth season in May, and it has been renewed for a fifth season with filming currently ongoing.
