Zendaya has reportedly been cast as Mary Jane Watson in the forthcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming movie.
Sony has tapped Zendaya to play Spider-Man’s love interest MJ in the latest reboot of the superhero franchise, according to The Wrap. Mary Jane was last memorably played by Kirsten Dunst in the movie trilogy starring Tobey Maguire and directed by Sam Raimi that came out in the mid-2000s.
It was first reported back in March of this year that Zendaya had been cast in the latest Spider-Man movie, which will star Tom Holland in the titular role. At the time, it was unknown what character the former Disney Channel star would be taking on in the Jon Watts-directed movie.
Zendaya has yet to comment about the news surrounding her role.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will also star Marissa Tomei as Aunt May, Michael Keaton as Vulture/Adrian Toomes, Donald Glover, Martin Starr and Hanibal Buress. Robert Downey Jr. is also slated to make an appearance as Iron Man/Tony Stark.
Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017.
