Ahead of the new season of HBO’s drama series Euphoria, Zendaya has confirmed the characters will be portrayed as high school graduates, a stark difference from the past two seasons.
The Emmy Award-winning actress appeared on Entertainment Weekly’s podcast, The Awardist, to discuss season 3 of the popular series.
“It’s important because there’s only so much high school drama you can deal with,” she said of the season’s timeline shift.
While Zendaya did not share any details about the state of her character, Rue, in season 3, she did say the new installment will be exciting.
“I don’t actually know much about what is happening,” she admitted. “I don’t know exactly what the season is going to look like, but I do know the time jump is happening. It will be fascinating to see and understand these characters outside of the context of high school and how all the stuff we saw when they were kids and they were in high school affects the adulthood they have and who they become in a much bigger world. I’ll be interested to see what happens too.”
Euphoria, which last premiered in 2022, also stars actors Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Storm Reid, Hunter Schafer and Alexa Demie, all of whom will be returning for the new season. Missing from the cast will be Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez in the first two seasons, as well as Angus Cloud, who played drug dealer Fezco before dying of an accidental overdose in 2023.
