Zelda Williams, daughter of the late actor and comedian Robin Williams is going to be stepping into feature film directing for the first time with the interesting project Lisa Frankenstein.
This is the latest script from Diablo Cody, the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind Juno, Tully, and the book of the hit musical Jagged Little Pill. It will star Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse as well as Kathryn Newton, best known for Big Little Lies.
Here is the film’s premise: Set in 1989, an unpopular high schooler (Newton) who accidentally re-animates a handsome Victorian corpse (Sprouse) during a lightning storm and starts to rebuild him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage.
The film obviously is inspired by Frankenstein but has an interesting perspective, and already communicates a light-hearted horror comedy sort of mood. When the news broke, Williams took to Twitter to express excitement over her involvement in the project, and said Cody’s script is “the most bonkers, wonderful zombie script I’ve ever read.”
She also playfully referred to the movie as a “Zomb-com,” in another celebratory tweet about it.
Williams has been steadily building up work as an actor since first appearing onscreen as a child actor in 1994. She made waves as a director in the festival circuit when her short film Shrimp premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2018.
