Since he left the teenage boy band One Direction, Zayn Malik has taken a different artistic path – from making a solo music album now into fashion. On Wednesday, he reveal his collaboration with Versus Versace on Instagram.
With more than 35 million followers on Twitter and Instagram together, Malik unveiled his new partnership with Donatella Versace: Zayn X Versus, which will be a clothing collection for men and women. The line will be officially presented during Spring 2017 and available for purchase in May at Versus stores and online.
Malik is not new to the field as he previously had experience a fashion collaboration with shoe designer Giuseppe Zanetti. He has also covered the magazines Dazed, Paper, Elle UK and L’Uomo Vogue, as well as starring alongside his girlfriend model Gigi Hadid for US Vogue. Earlier this year, Malik also introduced a 23-piece streetwear line under his own name.
The “Pillowtalk” singer discreetly hinted at his partnership with Versace when he wore a metal-arms suit designed by the brand during the Met Gala this year. In his music video featuring Hadid, pieces by the Italian design house were spotted as well.
The new collaboration is a real opportunity to widen his creative skills. “I think Versus has always been a very cool brand and is a great brand for me and for people in my generation,” Malik wrote in an email to the Times. “I’ve always wanted to design clothes and there’s no brand I’d rather design for than Versus. I like to learn about things I’m interested in and I enjoy being around creative people so I think it will be cool. The bonus is that I get to collaborate with Donatella, whom I love and admire. I know we’ll create something amazing.”
