Zack Snyder released a new official trailer this week for the highly anticipated superhero film Zack Snyder’s Justice League in which the director’s original vision for the movie will finally be seen. Snyder was originally forced to step down from directing Justice League in 2017 due to his daughter tragically passing away during production.

Joss Whedon took over from Snyder and reshot the majority of the film to match his own tone as opposed to the latter’s. The original film received generally negative reviews upon its release. Critics panned the CGI, character development and inconsistent tone due to Whedon’s influence clashing with Snyder’s. After years of fans and eventually the cast members demanding Warner Bros release the “Snyder Cut,” the studio finally relented. Snyder showcased the latest trailer for his cut of the film on Twitter.

The trailer opens with Clark Kent/Superman (Henry Cavill) screaming in agony as an unseen foe attacks him. Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) is heard stating “the bell has been rung and in the dark among the stars the god is dead.” The trailer cuts to Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck) in the dark apocalyptic future he was dreaming about during Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He states that his dream was almost like a premonition and that there is an attack coming. The villain Darkseid (Ray Porter) is seen walking down a hall with his followers DeSaad (Peter Guinness) and Granny Goodness as his army kneels before him. Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds) soon kneels as well and promises Darkseid that the Earth will fall, before the trailer cuts to the former in battle against the Amazonians with his army of Parademons.

Bruce states that he is building an alliance and needs warriors to defend the people while footage of the other Justice League members is seen. Alfred (Jeremy Irons) questions if his team is strong enough, stating that “if he can’t bring down the charging bull, then he shouldn’t wave the red cape at it.” The trailer then shows several scenes in which the Justice League are in action, such as Victor Stone/Cyborg (Ray Fisher) approaching an unknown force, Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa) stopping a tidal wave with his trident and Barry Allen/The Flash (Ezra Miller) saving Iris West (Kiersey Clemons) from an oncoming car.

Archive recording of Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) is heard from Man of Steel with him stating to a young Clark that he was sent to Earth for a reason and even if it takes him the rest of his life, he must find out what that reason is. Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) states that people have claimed the age of heroes would never come again to which Bruce replies that it will and has to. After the title card is shown, an eerie voice is heard stating that they live in a society where honor is a distant memory. As Batman approaches the character, the latter turns around and reveals himself to be The Joker (Jared Leto).

Fans can finally see Zack Snyder’s Justice League on the streaming service HBO Max when it is released on March 18.
