Zack Snyder Addresses Future With The DCEU, Teases New Film ‘Army Of The Dead’

Zack Snyder addressed the topic of whether or not he would return to Warner Bros. to write and direct more films for the DC Extended Universe. Snyder originally directed Man of SteelBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. The first two film received mixed to negative reviews. Snyder was forced to step down as director for Justice League following his daughter’s tragic death. Joss Whedon was brought on to take over and reshot nearly everything while also deleting the footage that Snyder had filmed. Many people criticized Justice League for its inconsistent tone, lackluster CGI and rushed pacing. This caused Warner Bros. to shelve most of its original upcoming projects for the DCEU.

After Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released on March 18, most fans considered it to be a massive improvement over Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and a far better film than the original theatrically released movie from 2017.

Despite the success of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Snyder himself is unsure of if he will return to the DCEU following his experience behind the scenes of Justice League. “I always go, what is more likely? That Warner Bros. would ask me to make a sequel to Justice League? Or that they would resurrect a three-year-old movie, spend millions of dollars to restore it to my original [vision], and then release it?” Snyder told EW. “I think that the sequel would have been a more likely scenario than what’s just happened. So, I guess in the face of that I say, ‘Who knows what the future holds?”

Snyder has also expressed his excitement for releasing his new film Army of the Dead, a zombie heist movie starring Dave Bautista and Ella Purnell. Snyder even went as far to say that Army of the Dead was his favorite film in terms of his experience behind the scenes. “I’m super proud and happy,” he said. “I think it came out amazing. I can’t wait for fans to get a chance to see it. The new trailer is coming soon, I think in the middle of April. I’ve had a great experience with Netflix and the cast and crew. Shooting of the film was probably my most joyful cinematic experience as far as production goes.”

Zack Snyder’s Justice League can be viewed on the streaming service HBO Max while Army of the Dead will be released on Netflix on May 21.
