Zach Galifianakis revealed his shocking weight-loss at the New York City premiere of Birdman over the weekend.
Galifianakis, 45, joked that his new size is a “ladies 50” before he admitted that taking on the part of Jake in Birdman was a departure from the roles he's accustomed to. "The script kind of called for a more kind of tame person, as opposed to the things maybe that I have played in the past," he told E! News on the red carpet."It's a different type of movie… with the tone of the movie, you kind of want to change the tone of your acting. It was challenging because it was new."
How did Galifianakis, who is best known for playing Alan in the Hangover movies, drop the extra weight? "I stopped drinking and I just kind of put the weight off…I was having a lot of vodka with sausage… delicious but bad for you,” the actor told Conan O’Brien. "I was getting into too much trouble with the drinking, so I just kind of stopped."
In addition to Birdman, a comedy drama that takes a critical view of celebrity and the entertainment business, Galifianakis is expanding his resume with period drama Tulip Fever. He also has a project with Louis C.K. and action comedy Loomis Fargo in postproduction.
Birdman hits theaters Jan. 1, 2015.
