Zac Efron is joining Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the new Baywatch film set to begin production. Efron shared the news on Twitter on Monday, after a tweet by Johnson himself.

Zac Efron In Talks To Star In New ‘Baywatch’ Film

Efron is in negotiations to star alongside Johnson in Paramount’s Baywatch, a remake of the original 1990s television series about California lifeguards.

Reports of the film first hit the web last year, after Johnson posted a picture of himself posing shirtless on a watercraft. “”Rumors are true… we’re making #BAYWATCH the movie,” Johnson captioned the pic.

“Edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell. Cue slo mo running on the beach,” he added.

The film appears to finally be coming together, and in recent weeks Seth Gordon was reportedly hired as director.

Efron’s casting moves the movie up for a production start in early 2016.

The comedic plot centers on a straight-laced lifeguard (Johnson) who is forced to team up with a young rule-bender (Efron) in order to save their beach from destruction at the hands of an oil millionaire.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wrote the most recent scripts. Beau Flynn, working with Johnson for the fourth time, and Ivan Reitman are producing.

Johnson tweeted an article of Efron’s casting news. “It’s BIG. Me and bud @ZacEfron been talkin bout this one for a long time. And someone get my baby oil #Rated R,” the actor wrote.

Efron responded back with his own excitement at sharing the news. “So stoked brother – baby oil for 2 plz,” Efron posted, along with Johnson’s tweet.
