Zac Brown Disses Luke Bryan’s ‘That’s My Kind Of Night’; Fellow Country Stars React

Zac Brown slammed Luke Bryan’s latest hit single “That’s My Kind Of Night,” going to far as to say it’s “one of the worst songs” he’s ever heard.

Brown qualified his diss of the country singer by claiming that the two were friends, and acknoledging that it's doing well on the radio. “I see it being giant commercially, successful within what is called country music these days," Brown said in his interview with Vancouver’s 93.7 JRfm. “But I also feel like that the people deserve something better than that.”

The country songs Brown is referring to that have been so successful and focus on the same tropes all the time – “tailgate in the moonlight” and “daisy dukes” – makes Brown “wanna throw up.” The Zac Brown Band frontman continued to say, “There’s songs out there on the radio right now that make me be ashamed to be even in the same format as some other artists.”

Since Brown’s comments went viral, other artists in the genre have taken to Bryan’s defense. “Everybody has their own opinions, and I don’t have a problem with people having their own opinions,” Justin Moore said in a radio interview. “But where I do have a problem with it is when you call out somebody in your fraternity.”

Also adding his voice to the mix was Jason Aldean. "I hear some other artist are bashing my boy @lukebryan's new song, sayin its the worst song they have ever heard,” he wrote on Instagram. "To those people runnin their mouths, trust me when i tell u that nobody gives a s–t what u think. Its a big ol hit so apparently the fans love it which is what matters. Keep doin ur thing LB!!!"

Brown took to his band’s Twitter account to clarify that his comments were in reference only to the song and not about the singer – his supposed buddy.

  • Thank you Zac Brown for standing up for and making real country music. As a mother of a nine year old female musician, it is a challenge to find current country music that is becoming for her to perform at talent shows, and that her music teacher / choir director supports. I do support creativity in music and appreciate the new country hip hop rap music that is being released, but I also miss the emotional and thought provoking story songs. Country music is centered around personnel experiences, but there's more to country life than drinking, smoking, riding and dancing on trucks. It would be nice to have more meaningful songs like Loretta's Coal Miners Daughter, Dollie's Coat of Many Colors & Jolene, Reba's Fancy and The Night the Lights Went Out, Tanya's Delta Dawn and Lizzie an the Rain man, George Jone's Choices & Almost Persuaded, Hank's I saw the Light & Lost Highway etc..... Its easy to sell sin, but it takes talent to sell hardship and heaven, so keep fighting for and making traditional country music because we the people need country music that fills us with every emotion.
