Jeanne Cooper, who played Katherine Chancellor on The Young and the Restless for 40 years, passed away in May at the age of 84. On Friday, the daytime soap opera will say goodbye to both Katherine and the legendary late actress who made her come to life.

During the tribute episode, Katherine’s closest friends and family members will be heading to the Chancellor mansion under the pretense of welcoming her back home from vacation. However, instead of being greeted by the newly sunned and fabulous Katherine, they’re met by the news that she’s died.

"In the coming weeks, Katherine's memory will be honored in several very special ways that allow us to pay tribute to Jeanne in the remarkable manner she deserves," Y&R Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps said in a statement. "It is an extraordinary story that will bring the residents of Genoa City together to remember this woman they all loved."

Katherine’s death will not only trigger some waterworks, but will also instigate some Chancellor family in fighting. After all, the wealthy matriarch would have left a sizeable fortune behind, including the estate they’re gathered at to learn of her death.

“I knew Jeanne would want me to instantly think how her death would affect the show,” Young and the Restless head writer Josh Griffith told Entertainment Weekly. “She would be very upset with us if we weren’t turning this into story.”
